About Me

I purchased "Sadie''s House On Wheels "in late 2007 and loved traveling in a motor home so much that I went on the road full time in late 2008. I started writing this blog to help me remember all the wonder places I have been and it allows me to share those places with my family and friends. Summer of 2013 I decided to hang up the keys for a while and moved back into my stick house. After nearly two years, I am on the road again.

June 13, on to Fairbanks

It was raining again this morning so the 90 mile or so drive to Fairbanks on the Richardson Highway was pretty fast.  There were not too many places to stop and take pictures except for the Knotty House.
This was the only wildlife we saw.

There are numerous sculptures made out of burl wood which are pretty interesting.  The business is family owned and run.  The building itself has lots of burl wood fixtures and the deck railings are made of burl wood. (see picture at top of post)  There is also a great collection of stuffed wild animals.

This guy looks pretty scary.  Sure wouldn't like to meet him on the trail.

We had read about the Knotty House in the Mile Post.  According to the ad if you brought in your Mile Post and showed it to the owner you would be entitled to a free scoop of ice cream.  So we brought in our Mile Posts and got our free scoop of ice cream.  I was expecting a little sampling, but it was a full on huge scoop of ice cream, and it was the good stuff!

We arrived in Fairbanks and made a bee line for the grocery store before getting settled in a campsite. Bill was still in search for a tire for his tow car, so we also went to Walmart, which is new and not showing up on any of our GPS's.  We had been told there was no overnight parking in Walmart, but judging by the amount of RVs in the parking lot, that may not have been the case.  We had already made the decision to stay at the  Moose Lodge.

The Moose Lodge was suppose to have hook ups but they are not functional so we will dry camp in their large gravel parking lot.  There is a sewer dump and water fill up which is more important.  It is close to down town and shopping, a much better choice than Walmart parking lot.
