More Beach Walking, September 1

With this being our last day at the Pacific City Thousand Trails, we decided to spend the day at Cape Kiwanda Beach.  This was the Saturday of Labor Day weekend so I expected crowds, but the weather was perfect, so the crowds really didn't bother me.

I wanted to go out to the point that I had seen so often, which meant a hike up the other side of the sand dunes which we had climbed before. The point is at the left of the cape below.  The short trek was worth the views.  Once on top we sat and watched as a whale circled below feeding on what ever and blowing and breaching.  What a site! There was also a paddle boarder which kept his distance, but it must have been an incredible site for him to be so close to the whale.

And this is what the beach looked like ....not too bad for a beautiful holiday weekend.

The beach goers were all having a good time and take their Bar B Que seriously.  Not the large grill in the middle of the picture.

I watched on old fashioned game of tug of war.  The loser gets to take a sandy bath

I'm mesmerized by the Hay Stack rock.

Earlier we had walked on the beach on the other side of the dunes and below is the picture looking towards Cape Kiwanda to the south.

We walked as far as we could to the north and viewed Cape Lookout. 

We had a great day just relaxing and people and rock watching...

and of course another beautiful sunset.

Well, sadly our week at  the small village of Pacific City/ Cape Kiwanda is over.  It's a special place and at the top of my list of places to return to.  Next we are off to Seaside, Oregon for a few days.  I grew up next to Seaside, California so it will be interesting to see what Seaside, Oregon is like.
