Airstream Travels on the Oregon Coast, November 2015

I my last post I said to stay tuned for lots of changes.  First all, I sold my Born Free and cars in June with the intention of down sizing to a smaller more nimble trailer. Joel's 40' Beaver is getting tired and doesn't like hot weather, mountains inclines, and small places. She struggled a lot in the Rockies and any driving on hills needed to take place  early morning before temperatures reached 80 degrees.  So, when I sold my BF and cars, my intention was to buy a  truck that could tow small vintage trailer. Ideally a small vintage trailer that I could  refurbish and be  suitable for quick getaways... more like camping...in forest service camp grounds etc.

Well, things didn't exactly turn out that way. We bought a small truck,  and the fell in love with a beautiful 28' Airstream Trailer.  The truck was too small, so we ended up buying a larger diesel truck. The trailer doesn't need any work and so far it has been perfectly comfortable for the three of us.  There is are some differences and adjustments learning to live in a trailer vs a 40' or 26' motor home, but so far, the pluses far out way the minus for my lifestyle.  If you are curious, Joel is not giving up the Beaver.  We left it at the Skip Park in Casa Grande.

The Airstream tows beautifully behind the truck.  I can drive it easily, although I haven't tempted any major back up maneuvers and I am still learning how to hitch the truck to the trailer.  So far, no trouble getting into any of the smaller sites and it is so easy to level and set up. There are not a whole lot of whistles and bells to confuse me.  Futures plans may include solar and perhaps a generator. Currently, we are taking it on her maiden voyage touring Northern and Central Oregon Coast.  It's rained most of the time, but that's Oregon.

Our first stop was the Thousand Trails in Seaside, Oregon, and so far no leaks or major issues.  It poured rain the whole time we were there.  Then we drove down the coast a little ways enjoying part of the Three Capes Scenic Drive, a windy road that is not big rig friendly,  and landed at the Thousand Trails near Pacific City. No problems or white knuckles towing the trailer on the  narrow two lane road.

 The sun is finally peaking through. Can you see part of the rainbow?

 We were able to snag my favorite site with an ocean view at the campground. (We were here August 2012). Yep, that is my view from the Airstream.  Not too shabby!

And we are within walking distance to the beach. Beach walking is one of my most favorite past times, and Joel and Tara can tag along!

We will be in Pacific City for a few more days, before heading back to the Portland area. However, we won't be spending too much more time in Oregon. I'm  ready for some sun or I'll even take a little snow if we make it to Portola, California or Verdi, Nevada..  :)
